VSS Monitoring’s Distributed Series
Distributed TAPs are intelligent, hardware-based network traffic capture devices designed to passively tap inline networks or connect to SPAN ports for capturing and forwarding traffic to monitoring or security tools. Distributed TAPs are the foundation tools and delivering total, network-wide visibility for monitoring and security. With vStack technology, up to 63 Distributed TAPs can be stacked together to form a fully-redundant, self-aware, scalable traffic access architecture, providing complete network visibility, user-controlled network data access, greater operational efficiency and better ROI.
 
VSS Monitoring’s Protector Series
The Protector series of Inline Tool Load Balancers are intelligent, hardware-based traffic redirection devices designed to actively tap inline networks for forwarding to inline monitoring or security tools. Active Load Balancers are fundamental tools necessary for delivering complete total, network-wide visibility for inline network security and monitoring tools. Using these devices as part of a Distributed Traffic Capture System offers users Network Intelligence Optimization layer with a centralized view of the network. They provide intelligent traffic processing including packet and flow level control of what each monitor tool receives.

Protector provides a never before seen level of security, availability, and redundancy when deploying inline monitoring tools, as well as the flexibility of aggregation, speed conversion, load balancing, grooming, and powered-down state (using PowerSafe™). The active inline tool load balancers allow for 10M to 10 GigE network traffic redirection, traffic capture, active inline monitoring, and passive monitoring. When used for active inline monitoring, tool Bypass is also available. These hybrid devices offer maximum deployment flexibility.
 
VSS Monitoring’s Finder Series
The Finder series of Deep Packet Inspection (DPI)-based Filtering network traffic capture systems are intelligent, hardware-based, search and tracking devices designed to find "needles in the haystack" within the captured traffic before forwarding to monitoring, analysis, and/or storage tools. DPI-based Filtering devices are fundamental tools necessary for conducting surveillance for corporate protection or public law enforcement. Using these tools as part of a Distributed Traffic Capture System Family offers users a network intelligence optimization layer with centralized view of the network. They provide intelligent traffic processing with the ability to aggregate and filter, at a course level, traffic before conducting the fine granular searching and flow tracking.

The ObjectFinder tailored for finding matches for up to 65,535 unique email and IM addresses in network traffic, simultaneously tracking up to 65,535 matched sessions, and forwarding all packets associated with each matched session towards the monitoring, analysis, or storage devices. ObjectFinder allows for up to 10 GigE of network traffic to be searched in real time, per ObjectFinder port, which can be combined with aggregation and filtering, prior to searching, and with aggregation, filtering, and load balancing, after searching.
 
VSS Monitoring’s Tap Series
Traditional TAPs are typically low port-density passive hardware devices that provide complete traffic visibility for inline or SPAN networks. They offer basic functionality such as static (bulk) aggregation and replication but do not feature intelligent traffic processing capabilities such as Hardware-Based Filtering, which are available in Distributed TAPs. Traditional TAPs are useful for small deployments or as a component of a larger traffic capture deployment.

VSS distinguishes itself in this product category by offering its patented vAssure for failsafe Gigabit copper tapping. vAssure ensures traffic is not disrupted on a Gigabit copper link in the event of power failure to the TAP. This capability is critical for outage-sensitive networks.

vStack+™, VSS' stacking feature, enables users to build redundant mesh network intelligence optimization systems for complete traffic access and visibility. Supporting LANs, WANs (with our vStack over IP feature, available on select models), and cloud-based network infrastructure, VSS' stacking technology is available on all Distributed Series, Protector Series, and Finder Series models. Each traffic access model functions as a vNode in the network intelligence optimization system architecture. In addition to allowing customers to design and build global network intelligence optimization systems for accessing traffic, vStack+ also allows for superbox design. Each vNode connects with up to 63 other vNodes as part of the vStack, allowing any network infrastructure to have an up-to 1,512 port superbox consisting of 10/100/1000, 1G, and / or 10G ports.

System auto-discovery and self-configuration also ensures that the vStack is never compromised. If one port or vNode fails, traffic is automatically redirected to an open pathway to ensure traffic delivery to the appropriately assigned analytics tool. VSS provides global, unlimited, failsafe, and redundant traffic access for true network intelligence optimization system building and scalable, dynamic high-port dense superbox design.
